My pre-season prediction back in August was that the Premier League would be a three way race this season between Manchester City, Liverpool and Chelsea with Man City being crowned champions and I see no reason to change that. In fact, I think the margin between Manchester City and the other two will be significant. Liverpool will be badly hampered by the loss of Mane and Salah to the African Nations Cup in January.

It made me think at the halfway stage of the season who I would include in my Premier League team of the season if I was picking it now.

I would go for: –

Aaron Ramsdale (Arsenal)

Joao Cancelo (Manchester City)
Ruben Dias (Manchester City)
Antonio Rudiger (Chelsea)

Declan Rice (West Ham Utd)

Diogo Jota (Liverpool)
Kevin de Bruyne (Manchester City)
Ilkay Gundogan (Manchester City)
Phil Foden (Manchester City)

Mo Salah (Liverpool)
Romelu Lukaku (Chelsea)

There are a number of players that have had an outstanding season so far like Jarrod Bowen at West Ham, Emile Smith-Rowe at Arsenal, Andy Robertson and Trent Alexander-Arnold at Liverpool, Bernardo Silva at Manchester City and Reece James at Chelsea and they could easily have made the team.

I can’t think of a time in recent years that not a single player from Manchester United has failed to make my top eleven, but I genuinely believe they have fallen well behind the other top teams. I would be interested to know what changes people would make to the formation and to the players I have selected but try not to be ruled by ingrained club loyalties if that is possible!
